I started Taekwondo training at the age of 11 under the teaching of Instructor Kenny Miller and Grandmaster Hun Soo Kim. I continued my Taekwondo training until I left for college at the age of 18. In 1982,  I joined the VA National Guard and two years later, the US Army and served a total of 30 years. Throughout my military career, I was stationed in various countries where I was introduced to nurmerious styles of martial arts.

I trained in boxing, Muey Thai, Brazilian Ju-jitsu, Kung-Fu, and Eskrima. I continued training in Taekwondo and received my 3rd degree black belt from Kukiwon, under the teaching from Grandmaster Hun Soo Kim. I started Eskrima training at the Pedoy School of Escrima, Main Branch, under Grandmaster Tyrone Takahashi in 2004 and continued training with him through 2008. In 2011, I started learning Applied Wing Chun Kung-Fu under Sigung Larry Saccoia. I was promoted to rank of Sifu in March 2015. In 2015, I continued my Eskrima training with the General Ablen School of Escrima under the teaching of GM Gary Largo and was given the blessing to teach the "Derobio Pedoy Style" of Escrima at my school, the Applied Martial Arts Academy in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In fall of 2015,  I was promoted to the rank of Chief Maestro and continue my training with General Ablen School of Escrima.

I implemented the first FMA Division in the 2016 US Capitol Classics Championships and was nominated to become the GSBA USA East Coast Regional Director.
